Birth*circa 1776 John was born at Norfolk Co., Virginia, circa 1776. 
 He was the son of Daniel Culpepper and Mary (?). 
1800 Census*4 Aug 1800 John was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census at Christ Church Parish, Calvert Co., Maryland.1 
Biography* John was apparently a cooper, as he inherited his father's cooper's tools. 
Research note* That John of Calvert Co. MD was the son of Daniel Culpepper Jr. [ID 30] is speculative. Records in Calvert Co. MD should be checked during the 1800 - 1810 period. Apparently, the FHL in SLC does not have much that would help. [L. W. G. 27 April 2004]

Will25 Apr 1811 In Daniel Culpepper's will on 25 Apr 1811 at Norfolk Co., Virginia, Daniel, John, Asa, Mary, Martha and Marina was named as an heir.
(To son Daniel, the cooper's tools formerly belonging to Daniel McCoy; to son John, my cooper's tools; to son Asa, my shoemaker's tools; to wife Mary, the use of my estate during her life. At wife's death, household property goes to daughters Mary, Martha, Marina, and land goes to son Daniel. Witness was James Grimes. Daniel signed with a mark.).3 
Research note1812 Since John and Thomas Culpepper both (a) Lived in Calvert County, Maryland, (b) served in the 31st Regiment of the Maryland Militia, and (c) were of similar ages, they could be brothers. However, Daniel, the presumed father of Joh, mentions son John, but not Thomas in his will of 1811.
