| Biography* | Mary Beth Marchant wrote on 5 Jan 2007: "Robert Davis Sinclair was a Medical Doctor. He practiced medicine in the Zion Hope Community. Dr. Sinclair was married twice. His first wife Barbara Fulton, was born in Georgia. John Duncan was a child of Barbara Fulton. According to new information I have received I now believe that R.D. Sinclair and first wife Barbara had 4 sons and 1 or 2 daughters born by and before 1836. There is on file at Red Oak Baptist Church a set of papers with some of the information being provided by Winnie Sinclair Paul." DR. R.D. SINCLAIR, 1802-1862 R.D. Sinclair was born March 6, 1802 in York District, South Carolina. Dr. Sinclair came to Zion Hope Community looking for a home. He bought a farm and had a house built. He returned to Albany for one year, then came to live in the Zion Hope Community in 1848. Dr. and Mrs. Sinclair and their seven children lived on a farm located about one mile northeast of the present Abraham Baldwin College. From there he practiced medicine for miles around. He helped, in 1859, to constitute the Zion Hope Baptist Church, which is located about one mile west of the old Sinclair farm. This farm was then located in Irwin County, and Tifton was then in Berrien County, but the farm has been in Tift County since Tift County was created in 1905. Dr. Sinclair was the third person buried in the Zion Hope Church cemetery. He died June 11, 1862. Mr. Elias L. Webb states that as far as he knows, his grandfather, Dr. R.D. Sinclair, was the first medical doctor in this immediate section of Georgia. The George, Henry, and Elias Webb families are descendants of Dr. Sinclair.2 |
