| Biography* | | George Benjamin Bascom Culpepper was the son of Elias Daniel and Nancy (Clegg) Culpepper. His parents were noted in 1870 census records in the "Derasaw" Township of Grant Co., AR. On current maps, Darysaw is to the west of Pine Bluff near the border between Jefferson County and Grant County but on the Grant County side of the line. This is probably where George was born on his father's farm. In the mid-1890's George married Louise B. Hart and they settled down in the Pine Bluff area. Sometime before the 1920 census, George and Louise moved to Jacksonville, FL and George apparently remained there until at least 1940 since that was the residence noted when his older sisters died. But sometime before his death, George apparently returned to the Pine Bluff, AR. He died in 1958 at the age of 87. On his death certificate, his occupation was listed as machinist for "Railroad & Airlines."4 |
