Biography* John Hurlston Culpepper was the son of John Francis and Florence M. (Johnson) Culpepper. He was born and raised in Arkansas where he was noted with his parents in 1900 census records. His father was killed when Hurley was 14 years old.

In 1910, he married Ida Jewel Bradley and they settled down to raise a family in Pine Bluff, AR and the young family is noted there in 1920 census records. In 1934, the family moved to El Dorado, AR for a couple of years but then moved to Little Rock where Hurley spent the rest of his life.3 He died in 1970 at the age of 78.
