Biography* From Chip Culpepper:

Joyce's death marks the passage of an entire generation as she was the last surviving child of Capos Conley Culpepper and Lou Anna Augusta (Atchley) Culpepper.

She died peacefully during the night of Wednesday, January 22, 2003.

This grand woman was always a source of delight to me and my brothers in our youth. She was enthusiastic, boisterous, affable and absolutely filled to overflowing with the joy of living. She commanded the attention of everyone in the room when she was present -- and you could practically hear her coming just by the sound of her laughter anytime she entered the county! She positively adored my father [Conley Edward Culpepper] (her "Baby Brother"), and he positively adored her.

I last saw her at the funeral of her brother Oscar Norris Culpepper in November 2001, and she was still the vibrant, talkative, jovial and larger-than-life entertaining personality she had always been. Prior to that, I enjoyed her company at the Confederate grave marker ceremony for her grandfather John Malcolm Culpepper at Pine Forest, Texas in April 2000, along with my father -- where they were both honored guests.
