Birth*Dec 1874 Charles was born at Randolph Co., Alabama, in Dec 1874. 
 He was the son of William Araspes Culpepper and Zillah Ann Caroline Barron.

This photo was sent to Lew Griffin in 1980 by Manola Culpepper Logan (Mrs. Thomas G. Logan) of Detroit, MI. She was a descendant of Elias Daniel Culpepper, and suggested that this photo was of his family. However, if one looks at the children, and their ages and sexes, this cannot possibly be the Elias Daniel Culpepper family. But the photo is a perfect match for the family of Elias D.'s brother, William A. Culpepper. So I'm posting the photo here. Further information on this photo will be appreciated. circa 1875 at Randolph Co., Alabama.

Marriage*12 Dec 1897 He married Nancy Lula W. Stewart at Flat Rock, Randolph Co., Alabama, on 12 Dec 1897.1 
1900 Census*1900 Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Flat Rock, Randolph Co., Alabama. 25 m-Precinct 8 ED58 sheet11 line 42. 
1910 Census*15 Apr 1910 Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census at Hopkins Co., Texas.2 
1920 Census*1 Jan 1920 Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census at Hewitt, Carter Co., Oklahoma.3 
1930 Census*1 Apr 1930 Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1930 Census at Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma.4 
Death* He died at Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma. 
Biography* Charles E. Culpepper was the son of William Araspes and Zillah Ann Caroline (Barron) Culpepper. He was born and raised in the vicinity of what is now known as Wadley, AL. He was noted with his parents in 1880 Randolph Co., AL census records. Sometime in the 1890's, Charles went with his parents to Hopkins Co., TX 5 but the family returned to Alabama before the 1900 census.

Based on information from the 1910 census Charles married Nancy Lula around 1898. The couple and their infant daughter are noted in the 1900 census in Flatrock which is near Almond to the west of Wadley, AL. E. Hurley Pearson wrote:6

Their old family home,7 a log house was located a mile out of town but has been moved into Wadley and is now used as a craft shop. It is in remarkably good condition....

Based on the birth locations of the children from census records, the family returned to Hopkins Co., TX around 1903 and this is where the family was noted in the 1910 census. By the 1920 census, the family had moved to Carter Co., OK. E. Hurley Pearson wrote:6

Charles moved to Oklahoma (Shawnee) and raised a large family. (Many of his family are still in Shawnee.) He came back here 8 several times after the war (World War II) and visited. He was the last survivor.
