| Biography* | 25 Aug 2005 | Obituary: Emmett Eugene Culpepper of Prineville died Saturday (Aug. 20, 2005) of natural causes. He was 78. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Mr. Culpepper was born April 6, 1927, in Eminence, Mo., to Francis and Mahala (Hurt) Culpepper. He graduated from Prineville High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He married Shirley Brewer on June 30, 1951, in Prineville. Mr. Culpepper was initially a mill worker and spent time in construction before becoming a carpenter on the bridge crew for the state of Oregon. He was eventually promoted to foreman and retired in 1990. When the family lived in Klamath Falls, Mr. Culpepper was a Boy Scout troop leader and was active in Babe Ruth baseball as head of umpires in the Klamath Falls League. He and his wife returned to Prineville in 2002 where he was a member of American Legion Post No. 29 and the Elks Club. He and his family square-danced together with the Sagebrush Shufflers and other square-dancing groups. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, residential carpentry, furniture building and helping his family. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Prineville and David of Hood River; two daughters, Vicky Banta of Prineville and Dianna Thomas of The Dalles; a brother, Bob of Bend; two sisters, Opal Rekow of Newport and Grace Williams of Prineville; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospice, 1201 NE Elm St., Prineville, OR 97754. Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.1 |
