Birth*circa 1814 Kessiah was born at Georgia circa 1814.
She was the daughter of Zachariah Sutton and Frusannah Askew
1840 Census1 Jun 1840 Kessiah was probably a free white female, age 15 and under 20, in Henry C. Culpepper of Dooly Co., GA's household, on the 1840 Census on 1 Jun 1840 at Dooly Co., Georgia.1
Married Namecirca 1841  As of circa 1841, her married name was Culpepper.
Marriage*circa 1844 She married Henry C. Culpepper of Dooly Co., GA circa 1844. Kessiah may have been the wife of H. C. Culpepper, but there is no proof of this. He was in the Dooly Co., GA 1840 census, but in no subsequent censuses. Note that in the 1850 Dooly Co. census, Kessiah had a child named Henry C. Culpepper. However, there is an age discrepancy which raises doubt about this. In the 1840 census, the apparent wife of H. C. Culpepper was age 15-20 (born 1820-1825), but in the 1850 census, Kessiah was age 36 (born circa 1814). Nonetheless, if she were older than her husband in 1840, and just married, then she may have lied about her age to the census taker..
1850 Census*1 Jun 1850 Kessiah, Henry, Gressy, Mary, William and Argent listed as a household member living with Mills S. Roundtree on the 1850 Census on 1 Jun 1850 at Dooly Co., Georgia.2
Deed*28 Sep 1853 A deed was granted to them on 28 Sep 1853 at Dooly Co., Georgia.
(James I. Clements of Dooly Co., GA to Kizzura Culpepper and Grezzey Sutton, both of Dooly, for $390: Lot 179 of District 10. Wit: P. H. Key and John McMercer, J.P. Recorded 15 Apr 1858.).3
Deed7 Aug 1857 Kessiah Sutton and Gressy Sutton granted a deed on 7 Aug 1857 at Dooly Co., Georgia.
(Keziah Culpepper and Grezy Sutton, both of Dooly, to Elizabeth and Nancy Browning of Dooly, for $400: Lot 179 of District 10. Recorded 15 Apr 1858.).4
Death*before 1 Jun 1860 She died before 1 Jun 1860.
Biography* In 1850, Kessiah was 36 and living in a household with Gressy Sutton in 1850, who probably was her older sister. Gressy was the daughter of Zachariah Sutton and sister of Argent Sutton, who married one of Chadwell’s sons. So Kessiah was probably a Sutton, and apparently Zachariah did have a daughter born around 1814, but no one seems to know who she was.
Mills Roundtree, heading this household in 1850, was the son of Argent Sutton (born 1796) who married Arthur Roundtree in Jefferson Co., GA in 1820. Argent Sutton Roundtree was a sister of Zacahriah Sutton. Zacahriah was the father of the Argent Sutton (born 1826) who married David Culpepper.
