| Research note* | | The evidence for John S. Culpepper's first wife is slim. The 1830 census of Monroe County, GA shows John with a wife born between 1800 and 1810. No children were listed in the census. A report on John's family, obtained by Paula Raulerson of Gainesville, FL, lists two children for John born between July 1827 and June 1830, consistent with the census record of 2 Females 0-5. There is no further record for either of them. Mrs. Raulerson's record also indicates that John married Temperance Powell, born in 1814, in 1832. The 1840 census of Lee County, GA confirms that by 1840 John had a wife born between 1810 and 1820. If you can shed further light on this, please contact Lew Griffin.2 |
