James Quitman Culpepper, 75, of Phenix City, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. (12:00 p.m. CDT), on Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, with the Rev. Roosevelt Oakes officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Vance Memorial Chapel directing.
Survivors include his wife, Vernie Dease Culpepper of Phenix City; one daughter, Janice (Sanford) Hussey of Columbus, Ga; one son, Jerry (Fanny) Culpepper of Phenix City; one sister, Mattie Poole of Troy; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was born March 1, 1925, in Pike County, to Monroe and Ada Poole Culpepper. He retired from the construction business and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Alan Hussey, Chris Hussey, Sandy Hussey, Scott Culpepper, Willie Culpepper, and Earl Culpepper. Visitation was held at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (EDT).4
