Biography* That James Fiske was Mary Fiske's father has not been proven as of this writing (May 2000). Mary's entry in the Norfolk Co. VA Death Register states that she was the daughter of J B (or J & B) Fiske. At the moment, researcher Alice Doak suspects that this was a reference to James and Betsy (McPherson) Fiske. Further research is needed.

(Book 14, p. 4, Currituck Co., NC: 23 Nov 1815. Henry Culpepper, Sr., to Arthur Culpepper, for $60, 12½ acres in the backwoods of Moyock District, adjacent to Henry Culpepper, Warren Culpepper. Witnesses: Hardy Culpepper, David Powers (Jurat), James Fisk.).2 
Deed3 Mar 1827 He witnessed a deed grant and with Warren Culpepper and Arthur Culpepper as an adjacent landowner and with Rev. Peter Culpepper of Camden Co., NC as a previous landowner on 3 Mar 1827 at Currituck Co., North Carolina.
(Book 18, p. 32, Currituck Co., NC, 3 Mar 1827, recorded 18 Feb 1828. Samuel Powers to Riland McPherson, for $100, 34.5 acres in the backwoods of Moyock, bordered by Peter Culpepper's heirs, William's Cypress Swamp Road, back to Peter Culpepper's heirs, Samuel Powers, Arthur Culpepper and Warren Culpepper's line. Witnesses: James Fiske Sr., Robert (X) Powers, Deborah Fiske (Deed title & oath statement spelled Riland. Body of deed text spells it three times as Riling)).2
