Biography* Obituary:
Rea Browning "Tony" Culpepper, 87, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 28, 2000. He was born in Norfolk and grew up in Charlottesville, moving to Richmond and eventually Roanoke. Tony graduated from Jefferson High School (Class of 1930), working for Turner Drug Company at the time. He was a salesman with Eisele and Company, and was in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged. After World War II, Mr. Culpepper returned to his job with Eisele and Company, where he worked a total of 28 years. He then worked ten years for Reliance Equipment Company in Roanoke retiring in 1977. After retirement, Tony enjoyed playing golf at Countryside Golf Course, where he made two holes-in-one in 1990 and 1991. Mr. Culpepper enjoyed the fellowship of the Big Lick Kiwanis Club, and was president of the group in 1988. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church.
     Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Michael "Betty" Culpepper; a daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Mike Collingwood, Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Rea B. Culpepper, Jr. and Patricia, Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Cindy and Lauren Collingwood, Mike, Erin, and Dianna Cochran; two cousins, James E. McFarland, Jr., Charlottesville, Catherine Ellis, Scottsville.
     Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. George C. Anderson and Dr. Julianne L. Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Flowers are welcome, and memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church (214 Mountain Ave., S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24016) or a favorite charity. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.2
