| Research note* | Benjamin's ancestry is unknown, but he was probably the son of Sampson or one of Sampson's brothers. He appears in Norfolk Personal Property Tax records beginning in 1796, at age 16. He apparently died in 1804, as he does not appear in the records that year, or thereafter.
