Biography* From Trudy Webb Berger, trudywb@aol.com, Aug 2000:

The information we have about Pelitithe comes from two sources -- a copy of the family pages from a bible that apparently was started by Pelitithe but was turned over to Samuel Bozeman Webb and a copy of Pelitithe's will. The first entries in the bible record the birth dates for Pelitithe and Sampson Culpepper and indicate the names of their parents. The will leaves everything to her nephew (could have been great nephew, but the will says nephew) Samuel Bozeman Webb. The bible entries also give the marriage date for Pelitithe and Sampson.

The 1850 Census for Baker County, Georgia, indicates that Pelitithe may have been living in Samuel's household just prior to her death.

There is a Stephen Webb that was in Jefferson County, Georgia from about 1800-1819. His wife's name was Ann. There was also an Elias, a Rice and a Jesse Webb in Jefferson County with land adjacent to Stephen's during that same time period. There is a Denisy Webb who married William Smarr and lived in Monroe County, Georgia. We know that the will of Stephen Webb was proved by William Smarr. We also know that Jesse Webb, who married a Nancy Bozeman, was the father of Samuel Bozeman Webb. We have the birthdates for Jesse and Nancy, and the death date for Jesse -- we don't know when or where Nancy died, whether Jesse remarried (Samuel was married four times) or where Jesse is buried. We think that Pelitithe and Denisy could have been sisters -- but if Pelitithe was Samuel's aunt, could she have been Jesse's sister? Or could she have been Jesse's aunt also, and thus Samuel's great aunt? We have another document that says that Rice Webb was Jesse's father, but the reference is tangential at best and unsubstantiated. It seems odd to us that Samuel would have named two of his sons Culpepper (and the use of the Culpepper name in our family continues to this date) if Pelitithe was only an aunt and Sampson Culpepper was only an uncle to Samuel by marriage. This leads us to wonder if there was a Culpepper/Webb tie before Pelitithe and
Sampson?
