Biography* Notes from Lee Y. Ponder
- Bible in possession of Elizabeth "Libby" Rice--believed to be Bible of Elizabeth A Thames, wife of Cornelius A Thames--listed death of Mollie Thames 15 Dec 1908, believed to be Mary Abigail Hart Thames. (Libby Rice). However, Mary Hart Thames d 1913 not 1908 so Mollie not this Mary. (Hub Broughton)

Biography "...there seemed to be a question [posed by Hub Broughton] whether Mollie is Mary Abigail and that Mollie died Dec 1908 according to the family bible, but that they thought Mary Abigail died in 1913. I can clear this up. Mary Abigail Hart Thames' tombstone states that she died December, 1908. She died when the youngest child, Mary, was born, which was November 9, 1908. Mary Abigail must have lingered a few weeks and died from complications of childbirth if December is the month she died. My grandmother, Addie Lee, the oldest daughter, was known as Sister, and she reared the young children after Jesse's second wife, Frances Leona (unknown last name) died on Nov 2, 1913. Maybe this is where the 1913 date came from? I understand through oral tradition that the baby Mary had mental difficulties or was slow in general. Maybe this 'baby' was reared by Jesse's sister Elizabeth (b 1871) because of these difficulties, but I always thought she was reared by my grandmother... Mary the 'baby' of that family eventually married George Barker and they had two daughters who were in an institution for mental retardation until they died. Mattie Lou Thames Turner, the mother of the cousins in Opelika, AL took financial responsibility for the two daughters before and after their mother died. "
