Birth*before Oct 1759 William was born at Cumberland Co., North Carolina, before Oct 1759. There is no doubt, based on Bladen County tax records and his father Joseph's will, William was actually born before the month of October in 1759..4,5 
 He was the son of Joseph Thames and Martha Elizabeth Newberry.2,3 
Marriage*say 1779 He married Lucy (?) say 1779. William and Lucy's children are all named in his brother Joseph's Will.. 
Tax roll*1781 William registered to pay taxes at Bladen Co., North Carolina, in 1781. William and Thomas are shown jointly paying polls on the 1781 Bladen Co. Tax Exempt List. They are probably still living together in 1784 since William is paying two polls that year..5 
Biography*20 Mar 1782 No. 2368. State of North Carolina 20th March 1782. As an order for the District of Wilmington. This is to Certify that William Thims is allowed The sum of five Pounds Three Shillings and Six pence Specie for his Services in the Militia as Witnessed on Pay-Roll No. 1114 Wilkson, Lewis Holmes. Occupation*1796 He was Reverend William Thames was Pastor of the Cape Fear Baptist Church when it joined the Nuese Association in 1796. William was a pioneer Baptist Elder in the Nuese Association and was given the duty of traveling and preaching at many of the Churches in that Association. He is given credit with being an eloquent speaker with "great ability to spread God's Word". His son's David and Cornelius followed in his path as Baptist Ministers.

William was an RS. In 1796 at Cumberland Co., North Carolina.5

1810 Census*6 Aug 1810 William was listed as the head of a family on the 1810 Census at Cumberland Co., North Carolina.8 
Deed*23 Mar 1812 He granted a deed to Rev. Cornelius B. Thames and with Rev. David Thames as an adjacent landowner on 23 Mar 1812 at Cumberland Co., North Carolina.
(Cumberland County Deed Book 20; page 472. March 23, 1812 William Thames to Cornelius Thames for love and affection 77 and 1/2 acres along the Fayetteville to Wilmington Road between the land of David Thames and the land William retains.).9 
Death*10 Jan 1813 He died at Bladen Co., North Carolina, on 10 Jan 1813. "Abstracts of Vital Records from Raleigh NC. Newspapers 1799-1819", by Lois Neal quotes the obituary which appeared in a Raleigh Newspaper on Friday, January 22, 1813. "Died on the 23d of November last, Mrs. Lucy Thames, in the 51st year of her age; and, on the 18th inst., her husband, Elder William Thames, Pastor of the Cape Fear Baptist Church, in the 53rd year of his age. ...numerous and lovely offspring...." The date of death that appeared in the Raleigh Newspaper conflicts with the date of 10 January 1813 on his will which appears to be correct..5

     Nuncupative (oral) Will. Died 10 Jan 1813 at house of Joseph Cain, Esq. of Bladen Co. Previous to death, William Thames called in Joseph Thames & Joseph Cain, sons William & James, "We the underwritten subscribers the first of kin and sole heirs of William Thames dec'd do hereby relinquish our right of adm on the estate of our father unto our brother David Thames." Jan 20, 1813. Stephen Wiggins, James Newberry, William Thames, Jonathan Coore, Correch Thames. Wit: Chas McAllester, Jas. Thames.

When the Reverend William Thames died, he had an abundance of "Worldly Goods". The administrators of his estate David Thames (son), Joseph Thames (his brother) and Charles McAllester (Joseph's son-in-law) were required to post a bond of 1000 pounds, current money to the Cumberland Co. NC Court. This Administrators Bond was executed on 1 March 1813.
