Newspapers 1799-1819", by Lois Neal quotes the obituary which appeared in a Raleigh Newspaper on Friday, January 22, 1813. "Died on the 23d of November last, Mrs. Lucy Thames, in the 51st year of her age; and, on the 18th inst., her husband, Elder William Thames, Pastor of the Cape Fear Baptist Church, in the 53rd year of his age. ...numerous and lovely offspring....".2

  1. Lucy's maiden name, we believe, absolutely could not have been Carver. The two Carver families of Bladen and Cumberland Co's. NC have been carefully researched by the eminent Cumberland Co. NC genealogist William C. Fields III, who is a descendent of both families, no Lucy.
