| Biography* | From Lindsay Robertson, July 2001: "Courtney Elizabeth Culpepper, was born December 29, 1841 and died August 13, 1891. She married on May 20, 1862, John Dozier Gordan (b. February 8, 1834, died September 19, 1914). Courtney's parents were Benjamin Franklin Culpepper (died 1845) and Lovie Chamberlain. Benjamin Franklin Culpepper was the son of Peter Culpepper. Lovie Chamberlain was the daughter of Charles Chamberlain (died 1834) and Courtney Trafton. Courtney Trafton was the daughter of Charles Gardner Trafton and Lovey McPherson. John D. Gordan and Courtney Culpepper lived in Camden County, NC. I believe Courtney's forebears lived in Camden or Currituck Counties. All of this information came from the Gordan family Bible and an old family tree belonging to my grandmother, who was Courtney Culpepper's granddaughter." |
