Vena Graham Culpepper of Moody, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord, Monday, December 3, 2001, in McGregor. She was 89.

Funeral services will be held 2p.m. Friday, Dec 7, 2001, at First Baptist Church , Moody, with Rev. Mickey Fugitt and Rev. Marion Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home Moody Chapel, 304 Eight Street, Moody. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cole Moody Chapel.

Mrs. Culpepper was born on March 20, 1912 in Melvin, Texas, the daughter of George Washington and Annie (Artieschoufsky) Graham. In 1918, she moved to Moody where she graduated from high school. She continued her education at Mary Hardin-Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

On May 18, 1935, she married Evan Alexander Culpepper III in Moody. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1994.

A teaching career spanning thirty years began in a country school house at Neff Park in 1932, as the only teacher and teaching all grades. When that school closed, she began teaching at Eagle Springs. She taught first grade in McGregor, Oglesby, Killeen and Moody prior to her 1976 retirement.

She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Moody, where she taught in the children and youth divisions and the ladies adult Ruth Class.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and B.J. Anthony; two sons and daughters-in-law, Evan and Becky Culpepper and Bill and Jean Culpepper; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
