(My Grand Father, James John Culpepper Sr. also fought in WWII as a SEA BEE in the Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. When he and my father were getting ready to leave Augusta, the Sailor in charge realized they were father and son. He told my Dad to carry all his belongings along with my grandfathers. It was one of those stories my father was proud to tell. My father's (James J. Culpepper, Jr.) ship was LST 133. He was aboard when it hit a mine. He went through D-day and this happened shortly after. We have snap shots of this damaged ship in our family photos. He was a Navy gunner mate w/ 2 shoot downs.
