 He was the son of Joel Culpepper of Cherokee Co. AL and Ann Elizabeth Tyler
(free wh male 15-20) 1830 Census1 Jun 1830 James was probably a free white male, age 15 and under 20, in Joel Culpepper of Cherokee Co. AL's household, on the 1830 Census at McMinn Co., Tennessee.1 
Death*Dec 1849 He died at Calaveras Co., California, in Dec 1849. 
Biography* According to the 1850 Mortality Schedule, James was a miner, born in TN. He died of dysentery. That he was the son of Joel Culpepper has not been proven, but this seems to be the most likely possibility.
