Biography* According to "History of Webster County, GA," page 223-4:
     "Mark Allanson (sic) was a successful farmer. He gave fifty acres of land as a wedding present to each of his five children. One hundred acres was given to the youngest child because it was sandy land.
     "Mark and his wife were members of the Turkey Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Weston, GA, and thoroughly enjoyed the foot-washing ritual observed once each year.
     "Mark Allanson (sic), a sergeant in the War Between the States, when home on sick leave was asked by his wife not to return to his company. He replied, "General Lee needs me. I must go."
     "On one occasion when the flag bearer next to him was shot down, he reached out and caught the flag and carried it into battle. He was so proud that the flag never touched the ground."
