Cecil P. Culpepper passed away 28 Aug 1979 at the age of 69. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. 30 Aug 1979 in Ennis, Texas. Internment was at Ennis. Cecil was born 1 Apr 1910, the son of A.L. and Edna Tally Culpepper. He was born and raised in Bastrop County. 11 Jul 1936, he and Lora Purcell were married at Bateman. For 33 years, before retiring, Cecil was a bus driver for Continental Trailways based at Dallas. During those years he was the recipient of many awards including "Trailways Million Mile Safety Award" in 1962. He received a safety award pin set with diamonds and many citations for years of driving without an accident. Survivors include his wife, Lora, daughters, Mrs. Robert Wolf (Margie), Mrs. Don Flynt (Joan); sons Gene Culpepper and Dwayne Culpepper; eight grandsons and one granddaughter, all of Ennis.

Cecil's daughter, Margie Culpepper Wolfe wrote on 2 Mar 2006 that, "He also was recognized for surpassing two million miles of driving safely before his retirement."7,6
