Accountis Culpepper

Male, #480, (circa 1804 - )

DNA* He heads a family branch whose exact ancestry is unknown.
A DNA test of a descendant of Accountis proves that he descends from Thomas Culpepper of Norfolk Co., VA. However, the exact path of descent is unknown.1
Birth*circa 1804 Accountis was born at North Carolina circa 1804.
1810 Census6 Aug 1810 Accountis and Benjamin was probably a free white male, age under 10, in Nicholas Culpepper of Camden Co., NC's household on the 1810 Census at Camden Co., North Carolina. Enumerated in census but otherwise unidentified are 1 M0-10, 3 F0-10, 1 F10-16 and 1 F45+.2
1820 Census7 Aug 1820 Accountis and Benjamin was probably a free white male, age 10 and under 16, in Nicholas Culpepper of Camden Co., NC's household, on the 1820 Census at Camden Co., North Carolina. Enumerated in the census but otherwise unidentified are: 2 M0-10, 3 F10-16, 1 F26-45..3
Marriage*circa 1840 He married Susan (?) at North Carolina circa 1840.
1850 Census*1 Jun 1850 Accountis was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census on 1 Jun 1850 at Camden Co., North Carolina.4

(Book AA, p. 111: 11 Mar 1855 — Accountis Culpepper and wife Susan to Joseph McDowell, for $25, our one-eighth part of the tract of Zale Sawyer, consisting of 40 acres).5
Research note*3 Jun 2004 The children of Nicholas are unproven. The 1810 census shows that he had three sons born between 1800 and 1810. Benjamin and William have been assigned to Nicholas because of their association with each other in Camden Co. NC deed records, and because of the apparent use of the name Nicholas among descendants of Benjamin.

Accountis is a possibility based solely on his being the right age. He named a son William, possibly after a brother. His son Joshua might indicate that he was a son of Joshua rather than of Nicholas, but Joshua's known children were all born before 1800, and Accountis was born around 1805.6
