| Biography* | IRA G. BROOKS OBITUARY Ira Guy Brooks, 91, died Aug. 22, 2003 at Lillian's Loving Care. He is survived by his wife, Frances C. Brooks; two nephews, David Marvin Culpepper and Kevin L. Culpepper Sr. and his wife, Debra; a great-nephew, Kevin Lee Culpepper Jr; and a great-niece, Karyn Lyn Culpepper. He was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church and its Walter Gum Sunday School Class. Mr. Brooks retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad (now CSX) in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1976, as a manager of pricing in the Traffic Department, after nearly 48 years which included four years in the Coast Guard in World War II. Part of the Coast Guard service was aboard a naval frigate (PF-3) on duty in the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Dabney Walters. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Monumental United Methodist Church.1 |
