Birth*say 1775 He was born say 1775.1
He was the son of William Culpepper of Norfolk Co., VA and Mary (?).1
Census1782  An unknown person was probably enumerated in the census report at Norfolk Co., Virginia, in 1782.2
Marriage*22 Jan 1796 He married Mrs. Martha Jordan at Norfolk Co., Virginia, on 22 Jan 1796.
War of 1812*between 1813 and 1814 He served in the War of 1812 between 1813 and 1814
(Virginia Militia).3
1820 Census*7 Aug 1820 Robert was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census at Norfolk Co., Virginia. Enumerated in the census but otherwise not identified are 4 M0-10, 1 F16-26 and 1 F26-45..4
1830 Census*1 Jun 1830 Robert was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Norfolk Co., Virginia. Enumerated in the census but otherwise not identified are 2 M10-15, 1 M15-20, and 1 F40-50..1
Research note*14 Apr 2004 The ancestry of Robert is not proven. Since Robert is near Henry E. and Sarah (then the widow of Henry) in both the 1820 and 1830 censuses, it is possible that Robert is the son of Henry and Sarah [W. L. C].

However, he was not mentioned in Henry's will, and so was more likely the son of Henry's brother William and wife Mary. This may be the Robert Culpepper who inherited land in his grandfather Thomas Culpepper's will. In that document, a Robert Culpepper, grandson, was mentioned as the son of Mary Culpepper, which is problematic. This writer assumes this is a reference to Mary, wife of William Culpepper, son of Thomas. In any case, Robert does seem to be a grandson of Thomas Culpepper, but his parentage has not been determined.
