Biography* In November 1774, William Culpepper bought 64 acres on the north side of Rocky River from John Spencer, with Daniel Culpepper as a witness.

In 1779, the area in Anson County north of Rocky River where William Culpepper and his family lived became Montgomery County. In August 1779, Daniel Culpepper acquired 75 acres in Montgomery County on the big branches of Big Bare (sic) Creek, on the west side of the Yadkin River (Montgomery County NC Land Entries, 1779-1795, by Dr. A. B. Pruitt). Big Bear Creek is in present day Stanley County, and it flows into Long Creek, which flows into Rocky River. Stanley County was formed in 1841 from Montgomery County.

Daniel's contribution to the Revolutionary War is mentioned on a plaque at the courthouse in Warren County, GA. The plaque honors "soldiers... buried in Warren County who fought in the war for American Independence..." See http://gen.culpepper.com/archives/ga/misc/warren-plaque.htm.

Daniel Culpepper appears on a 1782 Tax List for Montgomery County, and still owned the above 75 acres of land. By 1788 he had moved to Wilkes County, GA. In March 1788, Daniel bought 200 acres on Middle Creek from Michael Whatley. The land was adjacent to James Bush, John Lawrence, and Stapler, and had been granted to Whatley in September 1784. Witnesses were Jesse Wright and Robert (sic) Fletcher (Wilkes County GA Deed Bk FF, p. 53).

In 1790, Daniel witnessed a deed for his neighbor James Busch (sic) (Wilkes Deed Bk HH, p. 302). Daniel is said to have appeared on a Wilkes County Tax List in 1793.

By December 1793 the section of Wilkes County where Daniel and his father lived became part of Warren County. In February 1794, Neal Dougherty and Thomas Cowan of Columbia County, GA, sold to Mountain Hill and Jesse Armstrong of Warren County, 450 acres joining Reddick Bass, John Whatley, John Gilrow, Culpepper, and Peebles. Presumably this land was adjacent to Daniel Culpepper or his father William in Warren County (Warren Co. Deed Bk. A, p.208-9).

In July 1794, Richard (sic) Brooks Fletcher sold a Negro girl to William Culpepper, Sr., with Daniel Culpepper and Hadden Parham as witnesses. The bill of sale was given by William Johnston of Montgomery Co., NC (Warren Co. GA Deed Bk B, p. 125).

In January 1799, Daniel bought another 250 acres on Middle Creek from Jesse Armstrong and Churchill Gibson, with Isaiah Tucker (clerk) and Henry Hill as witnesses (Warren Co. Deed Bk B, p. 64-5). In January 1804, Daniel bought "a negro slave boy John" from John Gibson (Warren Co. Deed Bk. A, p. 38). In January 1805, Richard Sammon sold 450 acres on Middle Creek to Reddick Bass. The land was originally granted to John Torrance in December 1787, and was adjacent to John Gibson and Culpepper. Witnesses were Laur. D. Bryan and Henry Hill (Warren Co. GA Deed Bk. B, p. 376-7).

Around 1806, William Culpepper, Sr., gave his Negro slave Sarah and her four children to Daniel Culpepper, with William Culpepper, Jr., as witness (Warren Co. Deed Bk B, p. 518). In January 1807, Henry Hight sold 182.5 acres on Hart's Creek to Robert Culpepper, with Daniel Culpepper, William Harriss, and William Culpepper as witnesses (Warren Co. Deed Bk. B, p. 592-3).

In January 1808, Noah Butt sold another 37 acres on Hart's Creek to Robert Culpepper, with Daniel and William Culpepper as witnesses. In March 1808, William Culpepper Sr.'s will was probated. He left bequests to various children, including $2.00 to his son Daniel (Warren Co. Will Bk. AEW [1798-1808], p. 103). Apparently Daniel had already gotten his share of his father's estate. In October 1809, Daniel bought two tracts of land from his son Robert, 37 acres on Hart's Creek, and another 91 acres in an unspecified location. Witnesses were Moriah Mercer, Benjamin Culpepper, and William Culpepper (Warren Co. Deed Bk. D, p. 29-30).

Daniel died in 1819. He was about 69 or 70 years old. The Williams Creek Baptist Church recorded his death: "Daniel Culpepper, Sr., a member of this church, who had taken part in the Revolutionary War, died August 4th, 1819."

His will was signed in April 1819 and probated that September. He left the home place, household goods, and slaves to his wife Sarah for her widowhood. He gave his son William the 125 acres where William lived. He gave his sons Daniel Jr. and Robert Lot No. 72 in the 11 District of Jones County, which was 202.5 acres. He gave his son Joseph the 250 acres where Joseph was living. To his sons Dickerson, Benjamin and Mariner, and his daughters Martha Culpepper and Argin Newman, he gave $780.00 each. To his sons Joseph and William he gave $280.00 each. The executors were his sons Benjamin and Mariner. Witnesses were William Porter, John Benton, and Daniel Dennis (Warren Co. Will Book B, p. 54).
