| Marriage* | say 1816 | He married (?) McCrary say 1816. Benjamin Culpepper who married Martha McCrary on 20 Sep 1819 in Warren Co. Ga. may have been previously been married to a daughter of Isaac McCrary [another son of John McCrary Sr.] Temporary Ltrs. of Administration of his estate were issued in Baldwin Co. Ga on 3 Feb 1817 . Isaac had died intestate and on May 8 1820 there were 12 legatees that each received $1060.02 1/2 -- 11 of the legatees had the last name of McCrary and the 12th one was Benjamin Culpepper. Benjamin must have been married to a daughter of Isaac's at the time of his death in 1817 but since he also married to Martha McCrary of Warren Co. in 1819, she must have died before then . It would seem to me that unless there had been a child born to Isaac's dau. for whom Benjamin would become the legal guardian that he would not have been given anything because by the time of the distribution he had married Martha. It sticks in my mind that somewhere in the Talbot Co. Court records there is mention of a minor son of Benjamin Culpepper and perhaps he would be the 'unaccounted for' male age 5-10 in the 1830 Census in your record for Benjamin..2 |
