| Biography* | In January 2004, Steven Earl Newberry wrote: The following census information is what I have for the family of Jordan T. JACKSON and Comfort Amanda CULPEPPER Jackson... In the late sixties, a family member researched my NEWBERRY family, interviewing many family members and seeing family records such as Bibles and other documents. In her research she says that Ella Lillie Ora Jackson's father was Jordan T. or possibly James T. JACKSON and that her mother was Amanda CULPEPPER. Unfortunately, she did not record her sources, but I'm sure she did not pull these names from her hat. I believe one of the family members, probably now gone, must have told her about Ella's parentage. There has been some confusion, that I think was all caused by the 1870 census, about "Jordan" VS "James" T. JACKSON. There are stories in the CARROLL family history that tell of Ella's sister Ida Leny JACKSON being an "Indian Princess" and a great uncle CARROLL remembering going to an Indian Reservation in Alabama to visit JACKSON relatives... [On 3 Feb 2004, Theresa A Lovett e-mail address wrote, "The 'great Uncle Carroll' was actually my Uncle Edward Scott King, my Mother's brother. It was their Mother Zela C. Carroll, my Grandmother, that he said took him to the reservation. That is stated in a letter he sent to me in the 1970's."] It is my own belief that if Jordan and his son used aliases in the 1870 census, it might have been to avoid being sent to the Oklahoma Indian Reservation, or possibly they did something during the War, that created the need to avoid detection. Anyway, I hope you will find the census data, at least, interesting. Since this "H.S. Jackson appears to the the Henrietta S. Jackson in the 1850 census, I decided to show "H.S." in this 1860 census transcription, noting here that it might be "H.L.".
