| Research note* | Robert Culpepper apparently died before 1830 as his wife Jane appears as family head in the 1830 census, and his orphans were winners in the 1832 Georgia Gold Lottery. Since the 1840 and 1850 censuses show children in Jane's household who were born after 1830 (Mary Ann, Julia Ann, and David P.), it is not clear who their parents are. It is possible that Jane was the mother and the father was someone to whom she was not married. Or, these may be orphan children from another Culpepper family. Since the 1850 census does not state relationships, other records are needed to solve this mystery. If you can help shed light on this, please contact Warren Culpepper. Culpepper of Richmond Co., GA).7 |
