| Biography* | Obituary: Paul Andrew Culpepper, 78, of the 200 block of Chesapeake Ave., died Aug. 8, 2004, in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Jessie Atwell Culpepper and Fannie Lillian Williams Culpepper. He retired as a car inspector for Norfolk & Portsmouth Beltline Railroad after 41 years. He was a member of Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge No. 100, former member of Elks and Moose and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had a love of nature and the water, and was a merchant seaman. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia C. Afton and husband Michael F. of Portsmouth; a son, Kenneth A. Culpepper and wife Georgia of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Andrew Wayne Culpepper and Michael Patrick Afton; and a dear friend, Mae Houston and family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Ida Mooreland, Edna Williams and Lucille Forbes; and four brothers, Jessie A. Culpepper Jr., Alfred M. Culpepper, Edward W. Culpepper and William S. Culpepper. A funeral with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Damon E. Wyatt. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
