After all my just debts are paid I will and bequeath all my property as follows. 3rd. To my daughter or the daughter of Margaret Rafield named Sally I leave all my property to be applied towards raising and educating the said daughter by my Executor who I may appoint or by an Administrator or guardian appointed. 4. After my decease all of my property that I may own both real and personal to be sold and the proceeds to be applied as above directed with all rights claims or interest that I have or may have hereafter to be applied to the same purpose before named. 5. I hereby appoint [blank space] my Executor to execute the above Will. Witness my hand and Seal this Seventh day of October in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven. [signed] John [x] Culpepper (Seal). Witness D. T. Driver, John D. Brittain, Hiram Artman. At a court held for Norfolk County on the 16th day of November 1857 The las Will and Testament of John Culpepper dec'd was prov ed by the oaths of D. T. Driver and John D. Brittain two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of Sylvester Moore who made oath thereto and together with John Moore his security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of One thousand dollars conditioned according to law. which Bond is ordered to be recorded. Certificate is granted the said Sylvester B. Moore for obtaining letters of Administration on the estate of John Culpepper dec'd with his will annexed in due form. Teste Will. H. Bingley Dep. | Research note* | 3 Sep 2004 | John Culpepper is assumed to have been a son of Thomas Culpepper [ID 84] since Sylvester B. Moore was the administrator (with will annexed) of his will. And Sylvester B. Moore lived almost adjacent to this Thomas Culpepper in 1860, and was a witness to Thomas' will in 1867. Also, census records indicate that Thomas probably had another son not mentioned in his will. Your help with this person will be appreciated. Contact Lew Griffin (see footnote for details).3 |
