| Biography* | | The funeral for Paul C. Culpepper of Doraville, a retired postal clerk, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at R.T. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, Norcross, with burial in Pentecost Church Cemetery in Winder. Mr. Culpepper, 76, died at home Thursday of heart failure. A retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, Mr. Culpepper worked at the Hapeville station for many years. A veteran of the U.S. Army's 503rd Parachute Infantry, Mr. Culpepper served in the Philippines, the East Indies and New Guinea during World War II. He was awarded four Bronze stars and a Purple Heart during his tour in the Pacific. While Mr. Culpepper did not talk a lot about his military honors, "my grandfather told me one time that he got wounded by a grenade just as he was diving into a foxhole," said Brian Smith of Atlanta. Surviving in addition to his grandson are his wife, Jo Culpepper; sons Larry Culpepper of Snellville and Terry Culpepper of Hoschton; daughters Paulette C. Anderson of Loganville and Barbara C. Boles of Duluth; brothers Robert Culpepper of Franklin and Noah Culpepper of Macon; sisters, Maudie White of Waverly Hall and Reatha Merrill of Newnan; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.4 |
