Thomas Bonner1
Male, #51900, (circa 1744 - 1805)
| Research note* | Linda Burgess reports that Thomas descends from four generations of Henry Bonner's: "I got my data on them from The Bonner's of Chowan County, NC by John Wesley Curry (FHL FAM HIST Book 929.273 B643cj). He got some of his data from The Colonial Records of North Carolina Vol 1, 1662-1712, pages 216-218 (FHL US/CAN Book 975.6 N2n 1993 v1) as it was printed and extracted from pages 458-459 of the edition published at Friends Store, Philadelphia (FHL US/CAN Book 975.6 N2n 1993 v1 or FHL US/CAN Fiche 6078231)" Linda also provided the following summary: Henry Bonner, 1629-1689 It is this Henry Bonner who is believed to be the progenitor of the Chowan County Bonner clan. He arrived in the new world prior to March 1664 according to a request for a headright in name in March 1664. He could have been in the country for 5 to 10 years prior to 1664 since claims for headrights did not have to be filed in a timely manner. He was probably born in the period 1620-1635 with 1620 being the best target date. He came to America with his wife (unbamed) and two children (also unnamed). Other children were probably born after his arrival in NC and Virginia. An interesting fact that can be derived from the Legal Records for that period is that no Bonner was residing in what is now Chowan Co, N.C until this Henry Bonner arrived in the New World.
