Biography* Deborah Culpepper wrote on July 15, 2007: "I'm Rev. Lonnie V. Culpepper's great-granddaughter. When I divorced, I took his name (Culpepper), because I needed to identify with someone I was proud of. He was a good man and a good Methodist preacher and highly respected in our neighborhood and in most of St. Clair County. I was present in the house when his wife Alice (Riggins is her maiden name) died of a stroke. She was a nice woman and was always kind to me. We called Mr. Culpepper 'Poppa'. He was the first in our neighborhood to own a TV (black/white) and we would trek up to his house to watch it. I have fond memories of him until in his 90s he developed a dementia that was probably Alzheimer's. Two more years he would have reached his 100th birthday."
