I commit my immortal soul into the hands of God, and as to my worldly goods, do make the disposition as is below setforto I give the plantation I purchased from the heirs of John E. Butt, to my son George Washington who is also the son of Sally Butt to have and his heirs, but should he die without issue, or his issue become extinct, I hearby devise the said Plantation to the eldest son of my brother Lemuel Culpeper, and in the event of his death without issue [sic], to the children of the aforesaid Lemuel Culpeper in succession according to their seniority. I give my house and lot in Gosport now occupied by W. Osborne to my daughter Elizabeth Ann who is also the daughter of Sally Butt, to her and her heirs forever -- my other house in Gosport I give to my daughter Penelope, who also is the daughter of Sally Butt, to her and her heirs forever. I give to my son George Washington who as aforesaid is the son of Sally Butt, my slaves big Jim, Tom and Nancy. I give to Elizabeth Ann my aforesaid daughter by Sally Butt my slaves, Bob, Sally and Champion. I give to my aforesaid daughter Penelope who is the daughter of Sally Butt, my slaves little Jim, Esther, and Nero. I give to Sally Butt my grey mare, and as much of my stock as she may choose. I give to Sally Butt permission to live on the Plantation given to my son George Washington who is also our son, so long as she may remain single or during her natural life. I give one bed to each of my children, George Washington, Ann Elizabeth, and Penelope, who are also the children of Sally Butt. I direct that the residue of my real and personal estate should be sold, and of the avails of the sale seven hundred dollars more or less should be applied to the thorough repair or if that is not practicable to the building of a suitable dwelling on the Plantation given to my son George Washington who is also the son of Sally Butt -- The residue of the avail. of the above [mentioned] property, I direct to be put out at interest, for the benefit of my son George Washington , my daughters Ann Elizabeth and Penelope who are also the Children of Sally Butt, to be given to them when they become of full age. In testimony whereof I have set my hand and affirmed my seal this fourth day of September, one thousand and eight hundred and thirty three.
