| Biography* | Unfortunately, Robert Culpepper, Jr., only mentioned his wife Dorcas in his will. So the names of his children, for the most part, are based on early Norfolk County tithable records. Each son, as he reached age 16, was mentioned at least for a year or two in his father's household in these tithable records, which have been published. The son William, is known only through the will of his brother, Daniel. . Robert's grandchildren are even more problematic, as none of his sons left wills mentioning their children. So while many modern Chesapeake Culpeppers seem to descend from this Robert, our knowledge of their exact connection is tenuous and vague, at best. . 26 Oct 1727 -- Deed Bk G, p 60. John Scott of the Western Branch in the Parish of Portsmouth to Robert and Dorcas Culpepper, land where Robert and Dorcas "have for many years lived" bounding Winfield Dale and Benjamin Lewelling, for their lifetimes only, two shillings and six pence per year or £50 total.
