| Biography* | Sampson was born before 1776 according to the 1820 census, and after 1780, according to the 1830 census. It is possible that the 1820 and 1830 censuses identify two different Sampson Culpeppers. If this is true, then: - The one in the 1820 census was born before 1776, was married in 1789 to Margaret, and they they had two sons and four daughters, whose names are largely unknown. - The one in the 1830 census was born after 1780, married Mary Peacock in 1804, and they had at least one son.
