| Biography* | Jun 1757 -- Norfolk Tithables, Great Bridge to Edmonds Bridge & Batchelors Mill, "Thomas Culpeper, Jr.," one tithe. This was Thomas Jr.'s first appearance in the tithe records, so he was at least 16 years old. 20 Jul 1786 -- Thomas inherited from his father Thomas, 283 acres on Old Mill Creek. Thomas left a will dated 7 Nov 1791 and proven 17 Sep 1792. The executor was Jacob Ballentine. Thomas Culpepper, of Saint Brides Parish, to Jacob Ballentine and his wife, 100 acres where I now live, beginning at the river, running back to the back line. After their deaths, to his [Jacob's] son Joseph Ballentine. To grandson Thomas Read, 96.75 acres on the Western side of my plantation, beginning at the river and running back to the back line, etc. To Richard Kane and his wife, 96.75 acres. Grandson Thomas Reid shall pay unto his sister Susanna when he comes of age the some of 10 pounds of the money that arises from the rent. I leave cattle, hogs, to pay debts. Witnesses were John Bell and John ("J" his mark) Culpepper Signed, Thomas ("T" his mark) Culpepper. | |
