| Biography* | | Edward Grandy Culpepper, 81, of the 1500 block of Norcova Ave. (Norfolk, VA), devoted husband of the late Virginia Sawyer Culpepper, took her hand and joyfully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in a local hospital. [His wife, Virginia, died one week earlier on 7 Jan 1999. See obituary below.] Mr. Culpepper was born in Hickory, Va., and was the son of the late Quinton and Ethel Chapman Culpepper . He was predeceased by two brothers, Malvern Culpepper and Wilbur Culpepper . Mr. Culpepper had served as a senior engineer of the Underwater Explosion Research Division of Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 31 years until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church in Norfolk where he was a church elder for over 40 years, a Sunday school superintendent and a choir member. He was also a counselor for CBN's 700 Club. He was a kind and gentle husband and father. He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. Mr. Culpepper is survived by his two daughters, Joan Buchholtz and her husband, Leroy "Buck," of Rawlins, Wyo., and Janet Berry and her husband, William "Bill," of Chesapeake; one sister, Margaret Gibilaro of Newport News; one brother, the Rev. Horace A. Culpepper of Chesapeake; his grandson, John Edward Kleven; and his great- granddaughter, Nicole Ray Kleven. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, 1513 E. Sewells Point Road, Norfolk, with Chaplain Tony Dean officiating. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Bridge, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at 632 Corapeake Drive, Chesapeake.
