| Biography* | Virginia Sawyer Culpepper, 78, of the 1500 block of Norcova Ave., went gently home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia, Virginia Beach. Mrs. Culpepper was born in South Mills, N.C., and was the daughter of the late John Riley and Sarah Frances Whitehurst Sawyer. She was a member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, where she had formerly been active as a Sunday School teacher, served as a camp counselor and as chairman of the Ladies Circle. She also volunteered as a counselor for CBN's 700 Club. Mrs. Culpepper is survived by her husband, Edward G. Culpepper of Norfolk; two daughters, Joan Buchholtz and her husband, Leroy "Buck," of Rawlins, Wyo. and Janet Berry and her husband, William "Bill," of Chesapeake; her grandson, John Edward Kleven and her great- granddaughter, Nicole Ray Kleven. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, 1513 E. Sewells Point Road, Norfolk, by Chaplain Tony Dean. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A viewing will begin today with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Bridge, and at other times at 632 Corapeake Drive, Chesapeake.
