| Biography* | E-mail to Stephen Holleyfrom Warren L. Culpepper, April 2000: . The sources of my information that Anne Culpeper was the daughter of John Culpeper and Jane Whetenhall, and married John Sedley (Sydley) were: . (1) a pedigree chart entitled "Colepeper of Aylesford", included in "The Sussex Colepepers, Part I", published in "Sussex Archaelogical Collection", Vol. XLVII, 1904, pages 47-81, and . (2) a pedigree chart entitled "No. 2--Colepeper of Preston Hall and Oxenhoath" found on page 174 in "The History of Leads Castle", 1868, by C. Wykeham-Martin. . The source of my information that Anne Culpepper and John Sedley had a daughter named Anne (Anna) who married "Christopher Blower of Silham in Raynham" was only #2 above. . There was no documented genealogical support for Mr. Wykeham-Martin's work. Several times I have found that it is in conflict with other sources and with my own deductive reasoning, so I tend to discount its credibility when challenged by contrary evidence. . You asked, "Could Anne have married twice, first to John Sedley, then to Christopher Blore? Or were there actually two daughters whose names have become muddled?" I think either of these theories could be correct. . As to the 1558 estimated year of birth for Christopher Blore, I'll have to accept responsibility for that. It could easily be off by 25 or more years. It could be off even more if he married someone who was a generation earlier than my estimate assumed. I've tried to assign estimated years of birth to everyone in our old English records as it generally helps sort things out. I do know that John Culpeper died in 1550 and his children appear to have been born during the period of 1515-1535. It appears that Ann may have been the last of those children. If Christopher married Ann, then presumably he was born about the time of her birth or a few years earlier. My assumption of his birth circa 1558 was based on my questionable belief that he married Ann, a grandchild of John Culpeper, and Christopher, therefore, was probably born 25 or so years after the circa 1535 birth of his mother-in-law, Ann Sedley Culpeper.... |
