Biography* In his father's will of 22 Oct 1703, John appears to be under age 23. In addition to children listed, there was an additional daughter, of John and Millicent, name unknown. On 19 May 1711, three Culpepers, presumably all adult as they were not being presented by a parent, were baptized. They were John Culpeper, age 23, William Culpeper, age __ and Mary Culpepper. On the same day, in the next entry in the parish register, is recorded the baptism of Elizabeth Culpeper, daughter of Alleyne. Since there was an Alleyne (maried to Elizabeth), a John, a William and a Mary who were siblings, and children of Alleyne Culpeper and Mary Hedges, it is a reasonable asumption that the otherwise unidentified John Culpeper baptized on this date is John, son of Alleyne and Mary. Thus, John was probably born in 1687 or 1688, since he was 23 at the time of his baptism. In his will dated 23 Dec 1717 in St. John and proved 26 Mar 1720, John Culpeper named: my wife Millicent Culpeper; sons Alleyne Culpeper at 21 and Thomas Culpeper; brother Alleyne Culpeper, Thomas Quintyne Esq, William Culpeper, and Edward Quintyne Gent as guardians of his sons to age 21.
