Obituary of The Reverend Theophilus Barton Rowe in the 'Bournemouth Visitors' Directory', dated 21st January 1904:
"He was educated at Woodhouse Grove School for the sons of Methodist ministers, near Leeds, in Yorkshire, then won a scholarship to the Cathedral School in Durham, before going to St John's College, Cambridge. He taught at Uppingham School for 15 years before being appointed Headmaster of Tonbridge School. He took Holy Orders in 1859. In 1861, he married Blanche Buckler. They had 4 children: John Hanbury Rowe, Dorothea Ellen Hanbury Rowe, Hilda Blanche Hanbury Rowe, and Benedicta Jeannette Hanbury Rowe.
According to Jennfier Southorn, even though the obituary above also described Theo Rowe's father as The Reverend Samuel Evans Rowe, that fact is incorrect. Samuel Rowe was his father and Samuel Evans Rowe his brother.3
