Biography* Obituary:
     James Denis Culpepper, 86, died Monday, March 4, 2002, in Hindman, Ky. He was a native of Deep Creek, Va., served in the Navy during World War II and had been retired from the insurance business since 1980. Mr. Culpepper was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and had resided in Smithfield most of his life.
     Survivors include a son, William Denis Culpepper of Richmond, Va; a daughter, Polly C. Jones of Hindman, Ky; two sisters, Sophia House of Portsmouth and Margaret Mountcastle of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Dennis, Tammi, Greg, Christy, David and Kevin; six great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.
     A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Battery Park Cemetery with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.4
