 He was the son of Erasmus Culpepper III and Rebecca Jane Southall. 
1860 Census1 Jun 1860 Rebecca, Ernest, Alonzo, John, Roseline and Martha listed as a household member living with Erasmus Culpepper III in the 1860 Census at Wilcox Co., Alabama.3

Alonzo Culpepper
1870 Census*1 Jun 1870 Alonzo was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census at Greensboro, Hale Co., Alabama. The census record did not make it clear which school the Culpeppers were attending. However, since they were sons of a prosperous family in nearby Wilcox County, most likely they were attending Greene Springs School, which operated from 1847 to 1884 as one of the State's academies. Called "Rugby" of the South, it prepared a number of Alabama leaders and was one of the first schools to add the study of science and government to the usual classics. (A historical marker for this school is located on Alabama Highway 60).4 
1880 Census1 Jun 1880 Ernest and Alonzo was listed as a son in Erasmus Culpepper III's household on the 1880 Census at Lower Peach Tree, Wilcox Co., Alabama.5 
Death*20 Apr 1883 He died at Saint Louis, Saint Louis Co., Missouri, on 20 Apr 1883.2 
Burial*circa 24 Apr 1883 His body was interred circa 24 Apr 1883 at Lower Peach Tree Cemetery, Lower Peach Tree, Wilcox Co., Alabama.2 
Biography* Alonzo Culpepper left behind a record, of sorts, in that he was the Census-Taker in 1880 of Lower Peach Tree, Wilcox County, AL! His beautiful handwriting and signature are forever a part of the county's history. It is sad that he died a young man while attending medical American Medical College in St. Louis.1
