| Biography* | Estelle Culpepper married Edward D. Peppers in a ceremony at the LPT Methodist Church. He was a steamboat captain. They moved to Mobile where he was a successful businessman in shipping. Murray and Peppers Company existed for many years and there was a strong bond of friendship among these two families. Ed and Estelle had three children, George E., Edward Goode, and Rebecca Adelaide who married Harlin Lee Wilson. Estelle was a charter member of the Government Street Methodist Church and the Peppers were very active members. She was a charter member of the Mobile Infirmary, having been one of a group of prominent Mobile women who in 1897 started the movement to build the infirmary. She was a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of that institution until her death. The Peppers were active in social circles of Mobile and owned a home "across the bay" where they enjoyed summering with their family and friends.1 |
