The WW-I draft index (Grady Co., GA) shows this person to be a male who was married with one child, so since Bowding is such a rare name, the Bowding Helms who married Joseph Edward Payne may have been the child. Perhaps the child is the one in the SSDI which shows a Bowding H. Searcy, 12 Feb 1916 - 21 Dec 2002, who died in Lexington Co., SC and whose SSN was issued in TN before 1951.14

Biography* Obituary:
Dr. Joseph Edward Payne died Tuesday morning 22 Oct 1985 at his home, aged 90. He was a native of Bowling Green, AL (should read: Bolling, AL) and had been a resident of Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties most of his life. He was a member of the Eastgate Church of Christ. He was an optometrist in Florida for over 40 years having received his doctorate from the New Orleans School of Optometry. Survivors include his wife, Eva Dean Howe Payne of Pensacola, 2 daughters, Mrs. Eric Dorothy Dean Geiger of Pensacola and Mrs. George W. Jan May of Jackson Miss. 13 grandchildren including two granddaughters Brenda Payne Alday and Joyce Payne O'Bryan, both of Blountstown. 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services to be held at the Harper Morris Chapel and burial in the Milton Cemetery. Active Pallbearers - George W. May, Jr., Eric Geiger Jr., Rod Hurston, Allen Saval, Skip Teegarden and Robert Dunning.
